So, here I am, wide awake at 3:30 AM courtesy of the high dose steroids again. Thought I would take the opportunity to ask whether anyone else suffers from sore gums as a result of RA or the medications? Or is it just me? Dentiist says there is no infection.

Oh I already take the steroids in one batch in the morning. Doesn't stop the insomnia though. Incredible really when you consider I am also taking high doses of codeine and morphine. :)

Thanks for the tip re my gums though, Valerie

Hi Paul

Sorry for your lack of sleep. There is nothing worse than lying there waiting for sleep not to come.

Yes I suffer from sore gums. I have to visit the dentist every six months. He tells me the sore gums are part and parcel of the medication and RA. He also tells me you can make more plaque when you have RA which is why it is very important to have good mouth hygiene. Brush the gums as well as the teeth and floss well. I hate flossing and he showed me how to do it with sore wrists.

Another symptom to add to the list ..........

Take care

Jackie

hi Paul

I seem to get quite a few mouth ulcers, but I have an ongoing anaemia problem and mouth ulcers can be a sign of iron deficiency. I have tried several remedies but rinsing my mouth out with salt water works best for me. This heals the ulcers very quickly.

Hope your rheumy consultant has some news about your Humira tomorrow.
Best of luck

Rebecca
